A Minnesota-based federal government health services contractor approached Intertech over a year ago looking for development expertise to augment their .NET and Angular team. What began with one consultant has now expanded to ten consultants working on five different teams. Our consultants work remotely alongside the client’s team to develop call center software that provides health consultation to veterans.

Intertech’s relationship with the client began over a year ago. Initially, the client requested one consultant to augment their current staff. Our Intertech consultant quickly built rapport and trust with the team and demonstrated a quick ramp up time to get to work on the project. Within a week of the consultant’s addition to the team, the client requested more Intertech consultants to further expand their capacity.
The client’s business model involves developing custom applications and portals for service members and veterans health care. Intertech consultants quickly joined various teams working on independent projects across multiple large government contracts. Several of our consultants took on leadership positions for the teams, providing guidance, expertise, and project management.

The client has multiple project teams working across large federal contracts to develop different applications, tools, implementations, and customizations. Augmenting these existing teams, projects, and contracts meant that Intertech consultants needed to jump into the teams and get up to speed quickly on code bases that can be quite complex.

In many cases the Intertech consultants weren’t simply joining these teams; they were leading them. This required a strong grasp of the technologies at hand (.NET and Angular), a quick learning curve on the details of the new project, and expertise in project and team management. In addition, the Intertech consultants had to get up to speed and lead the teams remotely. While the consultants were available for meetings in the client’s La Crosse, WI office day-to-day work and operations happened remotely from the Intertech offices in Eagan.


In total, eleven Intertech consultants have worked on projects for the client. They’ve done so as members of distributed, agile teams. Individual consultants often work independently, with their projects completely separate from the work the other Intertech consultants are doing. As such, they’re deeply integrated with the client’s developers despite working remotely.

The consultants have provided a combination of heads down coding expertise and experienced leadership to push the client’s healthcare services projects forward. Their prior experience across a range of other .NET and Angular projects meant the consultants brought new insights and solutions to the client’s development team. This also included leadership experience and management skills to help keep teams on task and the project on track. Intertech consultants are still working with the client today to continue to develop and update various projects.

Within the first week, our initial consultant had impressed the client with his code knowledge and grasp of their application’s needs. Subsequent consultants that joined the team showed similar results and built trust with the client that allowed for rapid augmentation of the development teams.

In addition, the Intertech consultants’ pseudo-remote role gave the client much-needed flexibility. Our consultants were available for meetings and other important in-person events. However, on a daily basis they didn’t require desk space or client resources in the office. Moreover, the client avoided the hassle and overhead of screening and hiring new developers onto their team. Instead, they received Intertech consultants who were highly-qualified for the project from day one.

Those qualifications and expertise extended to leadership and project management, as well. The result was an augmented, experienced development team with management experience driving development and updates to multiple projects across multiple federal contracts.
